How To Participate

 
Volunteers make the Basura Bash community-wide clean-up possible.

From its beginning through 2006, more than 14,200 volunteers have participated in the event’s history, collecting over 202.03   tons of trash, 12.79 tons of recyclables, and 738 tires from the banks of the San Antonio River and its tributaries. The trash alone is enough to fill 20 garbage trucks like this one pictured.Volunteers have four ways of participating:

   1. Registering as an individual to participate in Basura Bash
   2. Registering as part of a group to participate in Basura Bash
   3. Registering as a group to participate in the Adopt-a-River program
   4. Become a member of the Basura Bash Planning Organization

While Basura Bash is an annual event, volunteers willing to help in maintaining the river as an on-going effort are asked to Adopt-a-River.

The Adopt-a-River Committee invites groups to "adopt" sections of the river to keep it clean throughout the year. During the Basura Bash event, interested groups will have an opportunity to sign-up to adopt their own section of the River or simply sign up by downloading the Adopt-a-River forms below.  You can also register online by clicking on this text.
