Volunteers make the Basura Bash community-wide clean-up possible.
From its beginning through 2006, more than 14,200 volunteers have participated in the event’s history, collecting over 202.03 tons of trash, 12.79 tons of recyclables, and 738 tires from the banks of the San Antonio River and its tributaries. The trash alone is enough to fill 20 garbage trucks like this one pictured.Volunteers have four ways of participating: While Basura Bash is an annual event, volunteers willing to help in maintaining the river as an on-going effort are asked to Adopt-a-River.
